Ingredients:

  • 225g spaghetti
  • 450g ground beef (or a mix of ground beef and pork)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 can / 400g crushed tomatoes
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • ½ cup beef or vegetable broth
  • ½ cup red wine (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Steps:

  1. Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet or saucepan, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped
    onion and sauté until translucent.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef (and pork, if using) to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it up into
smaller pieces with a spoon or spatula.
  5. Add the chopped carrot and celery to the pan and cook for about 5 minutes until they begin to soften.
  6. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef or vegetable broth, and red wine (if using). Mix well
    to combine.
  7. Add the dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together.
  8. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and simmer the sauce for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally
to prevent sticking. The longer you simmer, the richer the flavors will be. If the sauce thickens too much,
you can add a little water or broth.
  9. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning according to your preference. Add more salt, pepper,
    or herbs if desired.
  10. Serve the cooked spaghetti on plates or in bowls. Spoon the Bolognese sauce over the spaghetti.
  11. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves if desired.
  12. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious spaghetti Bolognese!
